(Sioux City)– The magistrate nominating commissions for Clay, Cherokee and Buena Vista counties met in a joint session recently to nominate three attorneys to be considered for the District Associate Judge position that will be open October 1st of this year, when District Associate Judge Donavon Schafer’s retirement becomes effective.
Nominees include Kristal Phillips, Dave Patton and Charles Borth.
District Associate Judges hear serious and aggravated misdemeanor cases, small claims, hospitalization cases, juvenile cases and civil suits for judgments of up to 10-thousand dollars.
The five district judges of the 3A judicial sub-district will meet and select one of the nominees to fill the position.
District Associate Judges stand for a retention election a year after their appointment and at the end of their six-year term.
