Dilapidated Building In Jackson May Be About To Come Down

April 19, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Jackson, Mn.)– A dilapidated building in Jackson may be coming down soon. City officials say the structure, known as the “Alamo Building” has become a safety hazard. Owners of a Jackson business, A & B Laser Engraving, want to demolish the building and put up a new one on the site. The city council this week gave the go ahead allowing the city’s Revolving Loan Fund Committee to negotiate terms of an agreement with the business. David Schmidt, the city’s Economic Development Director, told the council they want to get the project underway as soon as possible…

“They can start working on the design of the building then when they get the financing to do the entire project then they can pay the loan back off. Rather than waiting until May 2nd to get approval from this board we’re asking the board to approve the Revolving Loan Fund Committee working with AJ and Bridgett, to come up with something that works with them on a short term note to get this project taken care of and moving forward.”

Schmidt says they’re hoping to get the building torn down in the next couple of weeks or so. Bricks have been reportedly falling from the building and officials say there’s a large hole on the second floor.
