(Spirit Lake)– Controversy over any plans by Dickinson county to change the outflow at the Lower Gar Outlet was turned up another notch Today (Tuesday).
The board of supervisors was presented with a petition with more than 250 signatures on it.
Bill Reinsbach formally presented the petition on behalf of those who signed it.
The petition states “We the undersigned do not support the need for any additional outlet capacity. However, if additional outlet capacity is to be added, we do not want the present culverts and boxes removed. Any additional capacity should be through culverts or boxes placed with overflows atleast six inches higher than the present outlet control, dam, or weir.”
Reinsbach wrapped up his presentation to the supervisors by saying “hopefully we can come to some sort of conclusion.”
The supervisors took no action regarding the petition.
On a related note, they did discuss a bill from the Jacobson Westergard engineering firm for beginning work on designing changes to the outlet prior to the county telling them not to perform any more such work. The bill is in the amount of 1,909-dollars. The supervisors directed County Engineer Dan Eckert to contact the firm to get a detailed break-down on exactly what work was done.
