Dickinson Supervisors Give Cool Reception To Request By Osceola County To Share County Engineer On Temporary Basis

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A request from Osceola county for Dickinson county to share the services of its County Engineer on a temporary basis was a topic of discussion at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

The Osceola County Engineer recently resigned to become O’Brien County’s engineer. Dickinson County Engineer Dan Eckert told the board of supervisors he had been approached by the Chairman of the Osceola County Board of Supervisors wondering if Eckert and Dickinson county would be interested in some sort of temporary agreement under which Eckert would spend part of his time working in Osceola county. He would then be compensated by Osceola county for travel time and time he spent working there.

The request drew concern from several Dickinson county supervisors. Paul Johnson said he’s concerned it could set a precedence, adding the county’s taxpayers deserve to have a high quality of services…(click here for comment from Johnson.)

Fellow supervisor Bill Leopold said he would be in favor of pursuing talks with Osceola county…(click here for comment from Leopold.)

Supervisor Mardi Allen was also in favor of pursuing the talks, saying there’s no harm in atleast talking.

Supervisor Chair David Gottsche said he was concerned over the high workload there is in Dickinson county in the Engineer’s office. Fellow supervisor Pam Jordan agreed, making it a 3-2 concensus to not pursue talks with Osceola county.
