(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday entertained an offer that’s been tendered on a county-owned building in downtown Spirit Lake.
Assistant County Attorney Lonnie Saunders told the supervisors an offer of $100,000 has been received from a firm interested in purchasing the former DHS building at 1710 Gary Avenue. Saunders said he was not at liberty to name the firm that made the offer.
Saunders added this is the first serious offer the county has received on the building, which has been on the market several years. It’s value was assessed at one time at $225,000. Based on that and following some discussion, the supervisors voted to make a counter-offer of $175,000.
But not all supervisors are in favor of selling the building. Supervisor Chairman David Gottsche says the county may soon be facing a shortage of office space. He didn’t elaborate.
The vote to make the counter-offer passed three-to-one. Supervisor Pam Jordan wasn’t present at Tuesday’s meeting.
