(Des Moines)– Dickinson county remained among the top 10 fastest growing counties in Iowa according to new census figures that came out Thursday. As a matter of fact, Dickinson county was the fourth fastest growing county in the state in population…behind only Dallas, Johnson and Polk counties.
Dickinson county saw its population increase 1.4 percent from April 1st, 2010 to July 1st, 2011 for a total of 16,899 residents.
Only two other counties in the region posted gains: Buena Vista at eight tenths of a percent and Sioux county at six tenths of a percent. All others either remained the same or lost population. Palo Alto and Cherokee counties remained stable. Clay county saw its population drop by a half percent; Kossuth county saw a drop of nearly one percent; O’Brien county experienced a 1.3 percent decline; and Osceola county saw its population drop by 1.4 percent.
The biggest decline was in Emmet county, which saw its population drop by 1.9 percent.
