Dickinson County’s Next Planning & Zoning Administrator Will Come From Within

September 29, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson County’s next Planning and Zoning Administrator will be coming from within. David Kohlhaase will be retiring from that position at the end of this year. The Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved moving Megan Kardell, who has been an assistant in the office a number of years, into the title once Kohlhaase’s retirement is effective. Supervisor Steve Clark expressed concern over the county not advertising the opening…

“I was just looking to not set a precedence and have somebody come back in the future and say, but they didn’t have to do this.”

Assistant County Attorney Steve Goodlow responded by saying that procedure can vary from office to office given certain circumstances…

“Like in the County Attorney’s Office, I mean we wouldn’t be promoting the Victim Witness Coordinator to Assistant County Attorney because they don’t have the ability or credentials to do that. Here we have somebody who has all that.”

In addition to Planning and Zoning Administrator, Kardell will also serve in several other capacities currently held by Kohlhaase. Some of those include Environmental Health Specialist, Purchasing Agent, and Flood Plain Manager.
