(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Treasurer’s Office is now accepting the 2024 Iowa Property Tax Credit Claims for property tax assistance for the September 2024/March 2025 Property tax payments. Treasurer Kris Rowley says several different programs are available for those meeting certain income guidelines. One is for those 65 or older and those who are 18 and older and disabled…
“And that actually pays up to a thousand dollars worth of property taxes, paid by the state of Iowa, on a sliding scale depending on where their income actually lies. And then another program that’s actually new, it was put into place a couple of years ago by the Iowa Legislature, and it sets a baseline amount for future property taxes. So it’s based on age. You have to be 70 or older and you have to have income that qualifies. And then there’s also a program for assistance paid by the state of Iowa, for mobile home owners. And they only have to be 23 years of age or older and qualify by income.”
Rowley says proof of income is required when applying for the programs…
“My office takes the claims, we have them here so people can call us or pop in and get them. They’re also available on my website, www.dickinsoncountyiowa.gov, and then go to offices, Treasurer, and they’re listed in there. You can just click on the link and print them down.”
The deadline for applications is June 1st, 2024, to appear on the property tax statement. Rowley says they can extend the deadline through March 31st, 2025, for just cause.
