Dickinson County Trails Looking At Extending To West Of Lake Park

March 26, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors today (Tues.) adopted a resolution to apply for grant funding through the Transportation Alternatives Program, or a TAP Grant, through the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Erin Reed of Dickinson County Trails says it would go toward phase 4D of the Tatanka Ska Trace project, extending the rail trail west of Lake Park from the west side of Market Street to 110th Avenue…

“We decided that as we got into Lake Park that it would be good to continue going west as part of our full-on vision as far as hopefully getting connected with Harris in the near future, and also creates a pretty cool opportunity to make a loop around Silver Lake which has been in our long term plan for since we started talking about this trail and developing trails in Silver Lake when we did that first leg on the south shore, so.”

Reed says the project, if the funding is awarded, likely wouldn’t be constructed until 2028.
