Dickinson County Supervisors Review Safety Report Findings

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors this (Tuesday) morning reviewed a list of findings and recommendations from a recent safety inspection conducted by a representative of the Workman’s Compensation Association. Most of the inspection centered on the county’s Conservation Department, including the recycling center and nature center.

While most of the deficiencies were minor, there was a relatively significant one affecting the county’s Recycling Center. It says the county needs to come up with and implement a respiratory protection plan for workers in the center. But the supervisors are questioning just what type of respiratory protection is needed, saying it could be very costly if full respirators are needed. They’re also questioning if the county is responsible, saying the Landfill Commission actually owns the facility which is on ground leased by the county.

A copy of the report and its findings will be forwarded to the commission.

A response on how the recommendations will be met is due back to the Workman’s Compensation Association by December 20th.
