(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors today (Tues.) were presented with recommendations from the county’s Compensation Board regarding salaries for elected officials in the upcoming fiscal year.
Compensation Board Chairman Larry Stoller presented the recommendations. They include a three and-a-half percent increase for the board of supervisors with an additional thousand dollars for the chairman; a five percent increase for the Auditor; and a four and-a-half percent increase each for the Recorder, Sheriff and Treasurer. The recommended increase for the County Attorney is set by state Statute.
Stoller told the supervisors a number of factors were behind the recommendations, most importantly workload.
But Stoller was also quick to point out Compensation Board members are well aware of the difficult times we’re in, adding there “will be a certain amount of resistance from the public to spend any money”. Stoller added, however, that the cost-of-living is also going up.
The supervisors will take the recommendations into consideration in upcoming budget talks. They can accept the recommended increases as presented; lower them, or reject them altogether. They cannot raise them, though.
