(Spirit Lake)—Some more road work is about to get underway in the area.
The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors today (Tues.) awarded bids on a couple of projects scheduled for later this summer and the coming fall.
County Engineer Dan Eckert says one of them is a bridge replacement project on County Road M-27, or the Lake Park-Everly blacktop…(click here for comment.) “The bridge that is going to be replaced is about a mile and-a-half south of the intersection with A-34 where the flashing light corner is. Christiansen Brothers, Incorporated out of Cherokee, Iowa was the low bidder on that project and they’ve indicated to us they’re going to start that project the 29th of July. It’ll be the rest of the fall. The road won’t be back open until Thanksgiving time. The detour will be a three mile gravel road detour to the east of M-27. So if folks want to try to avoid that area and find an alternate route this fall that would be great.”
The bid of approximately $508,000 came in below the engineer’s estimate of $510,000.
The supervisors also today (Tues.) awarded a bid on several re-surfacing projects to be carried out later this summer…(click here for comment.) “They’re located in the southeast end of Milford on old Highway 71 from existing 71 about a mile and-a-half east and south, and then what we call the Kanab/Clark Museum Road on 213th Avenue on the west side of Milford from Highway 86 south to A-34, and then finally 242nd Avenue, which is the road down into Moore Lake/Twin Hills area. The contractor has indicated on that one he’s going to start just shortly after September, we’re hoping of course after Labor Day when some of the traffic is reduced around here.”
Eckert says there will NOT be an assigned detour for those projects…(click here for comment.) “All three of those will be closed road situations. We will have access for the locals…albeit it won’t be great access with it being concrete we’ll have a couple of days of curing that will be difficult for everyone to get in and out of, but there will not be a detour posted for any of those three roads.”
The nearly 1.3 million dollar low bid for the projects was awarded to Cedar Valley Construction.
