(Spirit Lake)– Some speed limits are being changed on portions of some roads in Dickinson county. The Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved the new limits for three different areas based on recommendations from the Sheriff’s Office and a study by County Engineer Jeff Rose. Rose says one of those areas that will see a lower speed limit is the west side of Center Lake…
“A request by the Sheriff’s department and making a recommendation to post a speed speed limit along two hundred and twentieth Avenue from one hundred and fifty fifth Street, which is fifty miles an hour, to one hundred and sixty fifth Street, which is thirty five miles an hour, to establish a speed limit of forty five miles an hour.”
A second area that will see a reduction in the speed limit is on the southeast side of the city of Spirit Lake…
“To make a recommendation to reduce the speed limit on one hundred sixty fifth from two hundred and fortieth Avenue, which is Erie Avenue, to the thirty mile an hour zone from the current speed of fifty miles an hour to thirty five. If you look at the map now, you have thirty five mile, thirty five miles an hour on this road from Hill Avenue to Erie and Erie Avenue from twenty eighth Street South is also thirty five miles an hour. So this would be consistent to discontinue at thirty five miles an hour until it gets down to that thirty mile an hour range. And this is the area that we looked at. There’s rezoning to residential on this route.”
The third area is near the site of where the new Okoboji Elementary school is being constructed on the west edge of Milford…
“Making a recommendation to reduce the speed limit on two hundred twentieth street from H Avenue, residential in Milford, to the west limits of the proposed school property, and two hundred thirteenth avenue from the intersection of two hundred twenty eighth street to the north limits of the proposed school from the current speed of 30 and 45 mph to 25 mph, and then step up the speed traveling west and north from that location.”
Rose told the supervisors signs with the new speed limits will be going up soon in the affected locations.
