Dickinson County Supervisors Approve Lake Park LMI Housing Funds

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The way has been cleared for a newly formed non-profit organization in Lake Park to begin overseeing projects designed to provide housing to low to moderate income residents in that city.

The Dickinson county board of supervisors Wednesday voted unanimously to approve a request from representatives of the Lake Park Housing Authority for the county to allocate tax increment revenue from two developments in the city that will soon be expiring. Combined, the two TIF districts are expected to generate in excess of a half million dollars in revenue earmarked for low to moderate income housing projects in the city.

Lance Heikens of Lake Park was among those representing the city’s housing authority at Wednesday’s meeting. He told the supervisors they will soon be able to start accepting applications from those who qualify for several different types of housing projects they’ll be able to offer in the city…(click here for comment.) “An assisted living sort of facility for low income individuals, rehabing homes so a young couple could afford to buy a home and not get killed by remodeling costs for insulation, roof, sidings, windows…that sort of thing. That’s kind of what we’re envisioning. Once you approve this it gives us the ability to go on and formalize what our guidelines are going to be for applications and two what extent we’re going to be reviewing each one of those applications for funding.”

Heikens added the delegation will be coming back to the supervisors with a specific request for funds from the allocation once things have been finalized further. He added the authority will provide regular updates to the supervisors on its progress.
