(Spirit Lake)—The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday approved a project to replace a bridge. County Engineer Dan Eckert says it’s on County Road M-27, in the western part of the county…(click here for comment.) “All Star Bridge, we refer to it as, between sections 21 and 22 of Westport Township is currently posted at 15 ton. We’ll be replacing that in a June letting so probably in mid to late summer we’ll be starting construction and continuing into the fall. We’ll be replacing it with a 110 foot by 40 foot continuous slab bridge.”
Eckert says traffic will be detoured around the site while construction is underway. He says federal funding will cover 60 percent of the cost, with the remaining 40 percent coming from the county’s farm-to-market account. A bidletting on the project is scheduled for June 18th.
The supervisors also Tuesday approved applications for federal highway funding for two projects on county road A-34…(click here for comment.) “In our five year construction plan we’re looking at two big projects, both on A34, one east of Milford going out of town. That’s actually a minor collector, excuse me, minor arterial road. Now traffic is up over 2,500 vehicles a day on that stretch. We’re looking at reconstructing the hill east of town and improving the sight distance at the Pelican Ridge Road intersection and re-surfacing those three miles. And then also in conjunction with that we’re looking at three miles way on the west end of A34 from the Osceola county line to M-27 we’re going to be seeking funding for.”
All total, Eckert says the county is requesting $1.35 million in funding through the federal program…(click here for comment.) “Applications are due the 12th. We’ll have a meeting with the nine county region and distribute, I think this year’s pot is like $3.5 million for the nine county region, and so that meeting will take place. Then it goes for approval to the technical committee, so I’m guessing in the April, late April, May timeframe we’ll find out.”
If approved, Eckert says work on the projects would be scheduled for federal fiscal year 2017, which begins October 1st, 2016.
