(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors Tuesday adopted a resolution supporting an application by the Dickinson County Trails Board for a Community Attraction and Tourism, or CAT Grant. It would help fund completion of the final phase of the Ta Tonka Ska Trace trail connecting Spirit Lake with Lake Park.
Erin Reed of the Dickinson County Trails Board says the resolution documents the county’s commitment to providing matching funds for the grant application…
“This basically states that we’re going to commit $75,000 that you’ve already given us for fiscal year ’24 development fund for this project. For CAT Grants the Iowa Economic Development Authority requires that cities and counties contribute to these projects which you essentially already have, so we’re just stating that fact.”
A portion of the resolution read by Supervisor Chairman Bill Leupold further spells out the details…
“Whereas the Dickinson County Trails Board is proposing a recreational trail segment known as Ta Tonka Ska Trace Phase 4B along the former Iowa Northwestern Railroad right-of-way, whereas the proposed trail will begin at 193rd Avenue in the town of Montgomery and continue west to 170th Avenue for a distance of two and-a-half miles, and through the existing trails connecting to the entire Great Lakes Trails System.”
Construction could be completed next summer provided the funding is in place.
