Dickinson County Resumes Weekly Tests Of Civil Defense Sirens

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Add this to the list of the signs of spring: Dickinson County Emergency Management is resuming the weekly testing of the county’s civil defense sirens.

The first test of the season is scheduled for 12 Noon today (Wed. 3/16).

Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret says sirens throughout Dickinson county will be tested on a weekly basis at Noon every Wednesday from now on through the spring and summer.

Ehret asks anyone who lives near a siren that does NOT go off at that time to call his office at 336-3987, or your local city hall if it’s a city siren that doesn’t sound.

It’s important to point out that you may or may not hear a siren if you’re indoors…depending on proximity. Officials again remind everyone sirens are intended as OUTDOOR warning devices only. NOAA weather radios are recommended for indoor locations. They sound special alert tones and messages when activated by the National Weather Service.
