Dickinson County Regional Collection Center Offering Compost, Wood Chips

March 08, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– Our mild weather has a lot of people’s thoughts turning toward gardening. If your soil needs a boost, Charles Vigdahl of the Dickinson County Regional Collection Center says they can help you out…

“We’re kind of the catch all green waste place for the county, so whenever people bring in grass and leaves, we put them in our grass and leaves pile. We set them out in compost rows. We let them kind of cook down for, it almost takes about, I would say, a good eight months for it to cook down and turn into great, black, organic compost and that’s a good way to get rid of some green waste that we have and also it’s a good way to make something valuable out of waste. And this stuff, we have lots and lots of it. Because of our really warm winter that we had, we got all of the green waste, we got all of the leaves and grass that people picked up every single thing in the county I think and we have it here. I have plenty of compost for everybody.”

Vigdahl says the price is right, too…

“If you come in and load it yourself, like if you come in with a bucket and a shovel, there’s no charge. You can come in and take as much as you want. If you’re looking for bigger amounts, like if you have a trailer or if you have a pickup truck you want to be loaded, we have a wheel loader out here and we can load it. The bucket is about three, three and-a-half cubic yards, so that’s quite a bit, and we can load it for you for ten dollars a bucket.”

Vigdahl adds they also have free woodchips available.

The Dickinson County Regional Collection Center is located just east of Milford on County Road A-34. The facility is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm through March 31st. Their summer hours beginning April 1st will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
