Dickinson County Bust Nets 66 Pounds Of Unprocessed Pot

(Spirit Lake)– A big pot bust in Dickinson county landed three people from Michigan in jail on drug charges.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says it stems from a call deputies received shortly after 3:30 p.m. Sunday regarding a suspicious vehicle on private property in the 2100 block of 160th Avenue.

Upon investigating, deputies discovered a marijuana-like substance in the vehicle. A subsequent search turned up 66 pounds of unprocessed marijuana plants.

35-year-old Joseph Bates of Shelby, Michigan and 23-year-old Christopher Bates of Muskegon, Michigan were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver; manufacture of a controlled substance; conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance and a drug tax stamp violation…all class “D” felonies.

They were also charged with possesion of drug paraphernalia…a simple misdemeanor.

In the course of a follow-up investigation, deputies also arrested 48-year-old Denise Arnold-Walcott of Muskegon, Michigan. She was charged with conspiracy to manufacture a controlled substance…a class “D” felony.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Milford Police Department and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
