(Spirit Lake)– There was more discussion about recycling at today’s (Tues.) Dickinson County Board of Supervisors meeting. Supervisor Kim Wermersen is the county’s representative on the Dickinson County Recycling Commission. He says a huge volume of cardboard has them looking at possible options, including the possibility of a site that would be used exclusively for cardboard.
And Wermersen says there’s another complication that’s arisen with the county’s recycling program…
“Right now if you recall we are paying for Orleans, Arnolds Park, Lake Park, Superior and Terril, we’re supporting them, not paying for but supporting their recycling uses. It’s come to our attention that both Superior and Terril are not on our 28E agreement and they are actually not being assessed any of the levy rates that we put out there. So we are considering stopping those agreements with them. They both are using different landfills and so we can’t assess them, we can’t do anything with those folks. So we’re looking at probably the first of the year taking back what we’re doing. And I know this is news to everybody from those communities. We’ll talk.”
Wermersen says those funds instead could perhaps go toward the dedicated cardboard site.
