Dickinson Co. Supervisors Hear Update On Summit Carbon Solutions Proposed Pipeline

May 24, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors Tuesday heard an update on a proposed carbon capture pipeline that would pass through a portion of the county. Kaylee Langrell of Turnkey Logistics, a stakeholder relations firm working for Summit Carbon Solutions, gave an update on easements they’ve obtained so far…

“In Dickinson county we are at a little over 60 percent of easements voluntarily acquired. And then at the state level we’re almost at 70 percent but we’re still at 69, so. So 69 percent for Iowa and 60 percent for Dickinson county. And then in the county, with that 60 percent, there has been about $4.8 million spent on acquiring those easements.”

When asked about the actual number of Dickinson county landowners that have signed easements, Langrell said she would have to look that up.

While they had hoped to start construction yet later this summer, Langrell says that’s going to be pushed back due to some procedural issues with the Iowa Utilities Board…

“Again we cannot start construction until we have their permit. So our original thought for construction target date was summer of this year, so since the hearing isn’t until October it looks like that will be pushed back all the way to spring or summer of next year.”

Summit Carbon Solutions is one of several companies looking at building carbon capture pipelines that would pass through the region.
