Dickinson Co. Supervisors Hear Update On Proposed Carbon Pipeline

September 29, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors Tuesday heard an update from a representative of TurnKey Logistics, a company overseeing non-environmental permitting for the proposed Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline that would go through a number of area counties, including Dickinson. Kaley Lingrell told supervisors they’re still hoping for construction to start about a year from now…

“As far as construction we do expect that still to start in late summer of 2023, so August, September. And then as far as land acquisition, last time we were here on June 14th we were at almost 16 percent. This time we’ve almost doubled that percentage so we’re at about 31 percent.”

Lingrell says they’ll soon be filing permit applications with the county for things such as road crossings.

It’s one of several proposed projects across Iowa that would transport liquefied carbon dioxide from ethanol plants and other sources to underground storage locations either in North Dakota or Illinois.

The proposed pipelines continue to draw opposition from some over the possibility of the companies resorting to eminent domain to obtain land from owners unwilling to grant easements.
