Dickinson Co. Supervisors Discuss Possible One-Call System For Tile Locates

April 26, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson county supervisors Tuesday talked about the possibility of the county establishing a type of one call system to locate tile mains and laterals for those looking at doing some digging. Supervisor Steve Clark proposed the idea…

“We’ve talked about, you know, getting them all listed and stuff but if the engineer’s office or the county was part of the one-call system and if they could look on a map and say, you know, we don’t have to mark that because there’s no county tile or lateral, county laterals, that are going to be possibly disturbed. But if there is, we’d mark those ahead of time.”

Fellow supervisor Tim Fairchild agreed in that it’s a good idea, but he said not all county mains and laterals are clearly mapped as of right now. That is something county officials say they’re starting to work on. County engineer Dan Eckert agreed to check to see if any other county in Iowa has such a one-call system in place for tile lines.
