Dickinson Co. Supervisors Discuss Parking On 182nd Street

April 15, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Parking along 182nd Street in the Moore Lake area of East Lake Okoboji was a topic of discussion at this week’s Dickinson County Board of Supervisors meeting. It stems from a request county officials received to make that area a no parking zone. Supervisor Steve Clark says the problem seems to be more notable during certain times of the year…

“When the shoulders are soft, they don’t get clear off. They just pull over so they’re about half way off.”

Supervisors also expressed concern that there’s very little room in that area for off-road parking. Supervisor chairman Bill Leupold says by making that area off limits to parking, it could have a severe limitation on those who provide services to residents in that area…

“You know, how are these houses going to get built? How are the docks going to get put in? How’s the grass going to get mowed?”

There was also concern over a possible precedent being set and enforcement. The supervisors took no action on the matter.
