Dickinson Co. Supervisors Approve Sink Hole Engineering Study

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday approved a proposal to spend $2,000 on a preliminary engineering study to determine more facts behind a sink hole that’s opened up in the Jones Pasture area on the east side of Big Spirit Lake.

It’s believed the 7 by 7 by 7 foot hole opened when a drainage tile blew out. The hole is in a driveway near a garage. There’s concern about it growing and of additional ones opening up. Another garage in the area has reportedly settled several inches just recently. There’s also concern the foundation of a house in the same area may be threatened.

The engineering study will involve televising tile lines in the area to try to determine where they go and whether they are privately or publicly owned. That information will help determine who’s responsible for paying the estimated $25,000 to fix the problem.

Residents in the area say they want to get the problem fixed before more damage is done. They’re also worried about someone getting hurt.
