Dickinson Co. Supervisors Approve Request From Veterans Services Director

January 07, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Director of the Dickinson County Veteran’s Affairs says her office is experiencing a significant increase in services. Spring Jones gave the update at today’s (Tues.) Board of Supervisors meeting…

“Our monthly number shows that our office is definitely increasing in activity. That goes for our walk-ins. I’ve included our incoming phone calls and then the number of van trips that we do every month and then the direct submits. The direct submits, like last month, we did 27 direct submits. That one direct submit may have like 10 documents attached to that.”

Jones adds the V-A awarded about $640,000 in benefits to veterans in Dickinson county as of November, 2024. She says only 31 other counties in Iowa performed above that.

Jones requested a part-time staff member in her office be bumped up to full-time effective immediately to help meet the demand. She indicated the budget for her office can support the change. The supervisors voted unanimously to approve the request.
