Dickinson Co. Supervisors Approve 5-Year Road Plan

April 06, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved the county’s five-year road construction plan. County Engineer Cole Budach says a few projects have been moved around, including a re-surfacing of County Road M-27 between Highway 9 and the city of Lake Park which is being moved up to the end of fiscal year 2024. Budach says it was originally planned for the 2025 fiscal year…

“We did that just from a constructability standpoint. We felt we could go sooner and it wasn’t affecting any dollars budgetary wise. The next thing we did north of that, we did have A-18, M-27 and the state line road that are currently paved, we had those as HMA projects. After some discussion with Jackson county there needs to be further discussion to get on track with them on that state line project, so that has been removed completely and looking at A-18 and M-27, we changed those from HMA overlays to a micro surfacing project.”

He says the plan also includes re-surfacing three and-a-half miles of County Road N-14 between County Road A-31 and the city of Terril…

“We’ve seen that here, especially this winter, really start to unravel and we believe there’s significant need there, especially with the amount of traffic that we get on that road. Like I presented to you guys earlier we’re going for the block grant for the three miles to the north of that and hopefully if we do get that block grant we’d be able to have an all new road in there possibly by the end of calendar year 2028 from Terril up to Highway 9. But three of those miles depends on that block grant but those are also three of our best miles so we can look at it if we don’t get that funding I’ll probably apply for that same block grant again the following year.”

Budach says the work on County Road M-27 will be funded by a transportation block grant and farm to market funds.
