Dickinson Co. Supervisor Calls For Moratorium On New Campground/RV Parks

July 12, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– There was discussion regarding tighter zoning restrictions for campgrounds and RV parks at today’s (Tues.) Dickinson County Board of Supervisors meeting, but no action was taken. Supervisors heard a plea from Lu Clark, a resident who lives near one of the proposed sites…

“If this was a housing development there would be what lot sizes could be. There would be how wide the roads need to be. There would be some limitations on the number that can be included and things like this.”

Supervisor Steve Clark called for a moratorium on the developments until the county’s Planning and Zoning Commission comes up with something…

“If the day these two are on the books gets settled, before we have a chance to meet, somebody else files an application, are we, is this just going on down the road? Is there a point where we can say this is going to stop until we have a chance to have planning and zoning. Can we put a moratorium on it? Can it be done? I know people will say it’s not fair. Why you know what? The IRS changes the tax regulations every year and I don’t think it’s fair, but they do it.”

David Kohlhaase, the county’s Planning and Zoning Administrator, told supervisors there’s little that can be done right now citing some possible legal implications.
