Dickinson Co. Road Project Bids Come In Lower Than Expected

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday received some good news in that two bids for road projects came in much lower than expected.

For instance, 790-thousand dollars was budgeted for the replacement of a bridge on 210th Street west of Milford in the “spooky hollow” area. The actual bid came in just under 585-thousand dollars. The general contract will be Christiansen Brothers Construction of Estherville. Work is to get underway later this fall or early this winter.

The project includes a substantial amount of earthwork. County Engineer Dan Eckert says it includes cutting down a hill and raising both ends of the bridge. He says the project should be completed around mid-May, 2010.

Another bid, this one for a pavement replacement on a bridge on County Road A-48 southeast of Terril, also came in lower than expected. That bid came in at just under 54-thousand dollars. Tri-State paving of Estherville in the general contractor on that project.

Also Tuesday, the supervisors voted four-to-one to sign agreements with the Dickinson County Taspayers Association and ISU Research to conduct a study into shared services. The association is picking up the 17,528 dollar cost of the project.

Supervisor Chairman David Gottsche cast the lone no vote.
