Dickinson Co. P & Z Votes To Send Proposed Pipeline Ordinance And Changes To Wind Turbine Conditional Uses To Supervisors

(Spirit Lake)– A proposed ordinance that would regulate the placement of pipelines in Dickinson county is headed to the board of supervisors. With one member abstaining, the county’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted to send the measure to the supervisors. Counties elsewhere who have already adopted similar ordinances are now facing lawsuits from carbon pipeline companies. Several who spoke during a public hearing on the matter at today’s (Mon.) meeting called that bullying and called on county officials to move ahead.

The Dickinson County Planning and Zoning Commission also voted today (Mon.) to forward proposed revisions for conditional use permits for wind turbines to the board of supervisors. Kardell explains what some of those are…

Here again the vote to send those changes to the supervisors was not unanimous, with P & Z member Jim Blum voting no, saying the revisions are too restrictive and intrude on property rights of landowners…

Kris Van Kleek of the group DC3 says they’re pleased with some of the changes but feels more could have been made, especially with residential setbacks…

Both the proposed pipeline ordinance and revised provisions for wind turbines are now scheduled to go before the Board of Supervisors at their meeting February 13th.
