Dickinson Co. Cropland Owners Encouraged To Sign Up For Special CRP Program

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Owners of cropland in Dickinson county are being encouraged to sign up for the continuous Conservation Reserve Program titled “State Acres For wildlife Enhancement” or SAFE.

Iowa recently received 4,600 acres statewide to address state and regional high-priority wildlife projects. Officials say Dickinson county landowners have a great opportunity to participate in the program as 90 percent of the county lies within the eligible geographic area.

Producers in that area can voluntarily enroll in CRP for 10 to 15 years. In return, they’ll receive annual rental payments, financial incentives and cost-share assistance to help establish native habitat on eligible lands.

The land must lie within the designated SAFE project area and had an agricultural commodity planted on it four out of six years between 2002 and 2007.

Anyone interested in signing up or wanting more information should contact the Dickinson County NRCS office in Spirit Lake at 336-3782 extension 3.
