Details Announced For Spirit Lake Memorial Day Program

May 23, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Monday’s Memorial Day program in Spirit Lake is being moved indoors due to uncertainty with the weather. Denny Perry of the Spirit Lake American Legion says it will be held at the Sami Center at Spirit Lake High School beginning at 10:00 am…

“At the Sami Center up at the high school we can have a huge crowd there at the Sami Center. We have a keynote speaker, a Lieutenant Colonel from the Space Force is our speaker. His name is Mathew Fechter.”

While flags were put up today (Friday) at the Highways 9 & 71 junction, Perry says a decision hasn’t been made yet as to whether or not the flags will be going up on the courthouse lawn…

“If it looks like we can’t put them up and keep them dry enough to get them down again, also, we’ll cancel putting them up.”

He says the flags will be placed regardless on the graves of veterans at the cemeteries…

“We will be putting all the flags up out at the cemeteries on Saturday morning at 8:00. Just come to the Legion at 8:00 and I’ll give you 100 or 200 flags to put on the graves of all the veterans that are buried in the cemeteries in Dickinson county.”

Again the Memorial Day Program in Spirit Lake will be held at the Sami Center beginning at 10:00 am.
