(Okoboji)– Plans for a recreational trail along Sanborn Avenue in Okoboji continue to move ahead. City Administrator Michael Meyers tells KUOO news engineering and design phases for the trail are pretty much complete…
“That would be a trail from Highway 71, basically connecting Highway 71 to Speier Park. The catalyst of that really was safety. We see folks walking, biking, pushing strollers on Sanborn Avenue every day in the summer and we want to be able to provide a safe walking trail or cyclist trail for those to get up and down Sanborn Ave. And so this trail will be on the north side of the road as that was the best spot for it and right now we’ve done the design work now it’s on to the city to try and figure out, okay, so how can we afford this and make it happen within a budget, a capital improvement plan.”
Meyers says as a result, any construction is likely still years away.
It was announced at Tuesday’s city council meeting talks continue with Imagine Iowa Great Lakes regarding their possible involvement in the project.
