Design, Drainage Issues Said To Be Factors In Ongoing Delays With Sherwood Forest Park Project

July 23, 2025

(Okoboji)– We’re learning additional details into the ongoing delays with the Shorewood Forest Park project being constructed on land at the former Inn Golf Course in Okoboji. It’s being overseen by the Dickinson County Conservation Board, which was gifted the land by a donor. A ribbon cutting on the project has been postponed twice now, and a new completion date hasn’t been set.

Steve Clark represents the Board of Supervisors on the Conservation Board. He reported at Tuesday’s Supervisors meeting the latest delay is due to a faulty design that is causing drainage issues…

“They’re going to have to remove some of the concrete, some of the trees that they’ve already planted, put in the required drainage and re-build the concrete and re-plant the trees. This will be, as I understood from discussion, paid for by the, not the donor and not the county, but by the design team. They admitted fault to not considering drainage on the whole area.”

Clark says the Conservation Board has agreed to reduce the retainage on the project by five percent so local contractors can get paid.
