(Spirit Lake)– If you’re wondering why you haven’t received your property tax bill yet, Dickinson County Treasurer Kris Rowley says you can blame the Iowa Legislature.
Rowley tells KUOO news the delay by lawmakers in finalizing the state’s budget has resulted in the state sending information needed to calculate payments much later than usual to counties. Rowley says her office just recently received that information and that they’re in the process of plugging it in. Rowley is hopeful they’ll be able to start sending statements out in late August or early September.
Even though statements are going out much later than usual, Rowley says it’s unlikely the payment deadline will be extended.
Meanwhile, Rowley says some people apparently eager to pay their taxes have opted to pay them in advance by getting an estimate of the amount due from her office.
