(Spirit Lake)– Add the city of Spirit Lake to the growing list of local governments concerned over shrinking revenues caused largely by the recession.
City Administrator Mark Stevens told the city council Tuesday that while expenses are on target, revenues are off considerably due to sharp declines in areas such as building permits, local option sales tax revenue and revenue from the state, among others. All total, Stevens says the city is looking at a shortfall of about 125-thousand dollars in the current budget year.
Stevens says he’s working on possible ideas on how to trim that amount from the current budget, adding he should be ready to present those to the council in the next couple of weeks or so.
