Jordan Hanson spoke his way to the Iowa High School Speech Association State Championship in Congressional debate this weekend leading OSL Debaters to a 4th Place finish. His teammate, Haley Bushee placed 5th, and Jay Oldenkamp, Andrew Wollenburg, and Miranda Johnson all earned Superior Senator Awards for being in the Finals House. Students compete in four sessions, and the top 16 students advanced to the Finals.
In Lincoln-Douglas Debate, OSL was led by Jackson Ave who finished 5th and Hannah Grosvenor who finished 9th.
In Public Forum Debate, team debate, Erin Richey and Clare Huntress finished 5th, and the teams of Keaton Jones and Clare Eckard and Emma Mhyre and Brandie Bushee finished in a tie for 9th.
The top 5 teams were West Des Moines Valley, Des Moines Roosevelt, Ankeny, Okoboji-Spirit Lake, and West Des Moines Dowling.

This marks the 9th year in a row and 14th out of the last 15 years where OSL has finished in the top 5 at the State Debate Tournament.
