Deadline To Apply For Walleye Weekend Grants Is Quickly Approaching

(Arnolds Park)– With Walleye Weekend now just a few weeks away comes a reminder of an important deadline. Kiley Zankowski of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says the deadline to apply for grants funded by proceeds from the event is Friday, May 3rd…

“Last year we were able to give $20,000 to different area groups that have focuses on water quality in the Iowa Great Lakes, some youth camps, a dock that is going to be going in, so various projects that all help all different ages and interests with fishing in the Iowa Great Lakes.”

Any 501C-3 entity can apply. Forms are available at okobojichamber.com/walleye-weekend or by emailing blain@okobojichamber.com. Zankowski says May 3rd is also the deadline for participants in Walleye Weekend to get signed up…

“We really encourage people to get registered by May 3rd for both the Walleye Weekend and the extended contest, and of course we want to remind everyone about the Biggest Walleye Contest as well.”

The grand prize for this, the 42nd year of Walleye Weekend, is appropriately enough, $42,000. It goes to whoever manages to catch one of the specially tagged walleye. Over 2,000 anglers from 15 states are expected to participate again this year.
