Deadline Approaching For Those Victimized In A Case Involving A NW Iowa Funeral Home

October 24, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Des Moines)– The Iowa Insurance Division says a deadline is quickly approaching for those affected in a case involving an Emmetsburg funeral home. The former owner of Joyce Funeral Home, Andrew Joyce, is accused of selling pre-paid funeral packages and not placing the money for those services into a trust as required by Iowa law. He was accused instead of using that money for personal and unrelated expenses.

The Iowa Insurance Division reminds customers who were hurt in the case they have until Monday, November 7th, in which to submit claims with the agency. Customers harmed may submit a claim online or by sending the Iowa Insurance Division a completed paper claim form. Commissioner Doug Ommen says letters were sent via U.S. Postal Service to those known to have been harmed in the case, but he says there may be others that have not yet come forward.

The Iowa Insurance Division was appointed receiver of Joyce Funeral Home in June of 2020. Joyce was charged with four felonies in the case.
