(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Soil and Water Conservation District is announcing a new water quality project underway in the Iowa Great Lakes Watershed. It targets agricultural and urban areas of the watershed that contribute the highest amounts of sediments and nutrients to the Iowa Great Lakes system.
Project coordinator Derek Namanny says the project has been years in the making and will be carried out in phases, with the highest priority areas being addressed first, working down the chain to areas that do not contribute as many pollutants into the system.
He says the goal is to make the necessary water quality improvements by working with both urban and rural communities.
Anyone wanting more information about the program is urged to stop by the Dickinson County Soil and Water Conservation District Office located in the USDA Service Center behind Pronto in Spirit Lake, or call 336-3782 Extension 3 during normal business hours.
