(Arnolds Park)– The days of walking around the Arnolds Park Amusement Park for free may be about to end.
Under the current policy, those who do not purchase ride tickets or a park pass for the rides can walk around for free while watching their kids or grand kids. But a proposal under consideration by the board of trustees of Historic Arnolds Park Incorporated, or HAPI, would change that.
A proposal mentioned at Monday’s meeting would call for the implementation of a two or three dollar fee for those who simply want to walk through the park. The HAPI board was informed the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association wants to work closely with them in coming up with a larger facility for the association’s museum along with a possible expansion of the Roof Garden. It was stated that the association has also expressed an interest in working with HAPI on fundraising for the projects.
In other business, the HAPI board voted unanimously to proceed with the first phase of a drainage project at Preservation Plaza. Board Chairman Walt Mendenhall reported that they’ve been able to raise some $50,000 for the project so far from various grants, and that they’re working on additional funding.
