Damage Assessments Underway In NW Iowa Following 80 To 90 Mph Wind In Many Areas

July 29, 2025

(Undated)– Another round of severe weather struck a good deal of northwest Iowa late Monday night. Storms brought extremely high wind with many reports of gusts as high as 80 to 90 mph. That resulted in tree damage and brought down power lines. The greatest extent of the damaging wind stayed just south of the Iowa Great Lakes.

In Sioux county, authorities were advising no travel late Monday night due to the amount of damage and downed power lines.

A peak gust of 72 mph was reported in Ruthven with a roof being blown off a business.

City officials in Spencer are asking residents with damage to contact city hall at 580-7200. A canvass of the city is also being done.

More showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast tonight (Tues.) but forecasters say the severe threat will be nowhere what it was Monday night.
