Crews Recover West Lake Okoboji Drowning Victim

(Okoboji)– Crews this (Wed.) morning recovered the body of 35-year-old Juan Miguel Gonzales of Sioux City who drowned Sunday in West Lake Okoboji.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says divers with Arnolds Park/Okoboji Underwater Search and Rescue team recovered the body around 9:30 a.m. in an area just south of Pikes Point where Gonzales had last been seen.

The Sheriff’s Office thanks the numerous businesses and residents that assisted by providing or donating goods and services during the search.

They were assisted by the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Underwater Search and Rescue dive team; the Spirit Lake Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team; Dickinson County Emergency Management; Iowa Department of Natural Resources; the Okoboji, Arnolds Park and Spirit Lake Police Departments; the Sanford Hospital helicopter out of Sioux Falls; and the Sioux County Dive Team.
