Crash On Hwy 71 In Clay County Injures Des Moines Man

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A two-vehicle collision Monday on Highway 71 in Clay county sent one person to the hospital.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 67-year-old Michael Gershowitz of Des Moines was westbound when his vehicle entered to the oncoming lane of traffic and collided with the driver’s side of a vehicle driven by 49-year-old Ronda Nielsen of Dickens.

Gershowitz had to be extricated from his vehicle by Dickens Fire and Rescue. He was then taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital with minor injuries.

No injuries were reported to Nielsen.

Four thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 1998 Dodge Stratus driven by Gershowitz; a 2006 GMC Envoy driven by Nielsen sustained an estimated five thousand dollars in damage.

Officials say road conditions and visibility were factors in the collision, which took place around 7:00 p.m.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa State Patrol and Spencer ambulance.
