(Spirit Lake)– Our series highlighting various offices in the Dickinson county courthouse continues. This week we’re featuring the Dickinson County Recorder’s Office. Newly-elected County Recorder Ann Dittsworth has been on the job about five weeks now. She had an opportunity to tell KUOO’s John Adams, Sr. how things have been going since she’s been in office…(click here for actuality.) “They’ve been really interesting. I’ve had some great opportunities to interact with area recorders as well as folks throughout the courthouse and of course the staff here in the Recorder’s Office.” What are the main public transactions that are handled by the Recorder’s Office? “The Recorder’s Office was created in 1839 and over that time our responsibilities are relatively unchanged today. But we have added many additional functions. So today, the Dickinson County Recorder’s Office retains a large variety of legal instruments on file, including things like affidavits, condemnations, deeds, mortgages, plats and surveys, powers of attorney, as well as state and federal tax liens. We also have vital records on file in the Recorder’s Office which includes birth certificates, death certificates, marriange licenses and military discharges. And then some of the other services the Dickinson County Recorder’s Office that we provide include issuing boat registrations and titles, snowmobile and A-T-V registrations, titles and trail permits, and O-R-V user permits and titles. And the one final thing I’d add is that we also process passport applications here in the Recorder’s Office.”
