(Spirit Lake)– We’re not quite half way through the year, and already 2011 is proving to be one of the busiest in recent years when it comes to economic growth in the region.
Kathy Evert, President and CEO of the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, says the proof is in the recent announcements from a number of companies in the region. She points to recent announcements by Polaris, Northern Iowa Diecast, Thinix and others.
Evert says several economic indicators for the region are also showing signs of improvement. Among them is an increase in Local Option Sales Tax revenue over what was collected in 2009. Hotel Motel taxes remained nearly the same, however, while building permits showed some growth, but not to the level experienced prior to 2008.
