(Spencer)—The Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation is reminding businesses in Clay county of an internship program that’s available to them.
Officials say the program, modeled from the Iowa Internship Program, is intended to give students a significant learning experience while helping employers recruit skilled workers.
The program was started in 2010 and has been growing since.
Students who are within two years of graduation are eligible for the program. Students that are U.S. citizens from any college or university, including community college, are eligible. Eligible employers must be for-profit, publicly traded, private, employee owned, and family owned businesses located in Clay county. Not-for-profit organizations and business and city, state and federal employers are not eligible.
Businesses are awarded up to $3,000 per internship and can apply for a maximum of three interns per fiscal year. Interns must be paid a minimum of $14.82, the average regional wage for Clay county.
Officials say in 2012, four employers participated in the program with four interns. They say three internships resulted in permanent hires.
More information on the program is available by contacting the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation at (712) 264-3474.
The program is offered in conjunction with the Spencer Area Jobs Trust.
