Corridor Delegation Prepares For Annual Washington, D.C. Visit

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Officials with the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation are packing their bags for their annual trip to Washington, D.C.

Kathy Evert, President of the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, tells KUOO news they’ve once again assembled a list of priorities they’ll be presenting to the northwest Iowa congressional delegation. They include a request of two million dollars from the Transportation Reauthorization Bill for Highway 86; $500,000 from the EPA for the Storm Lake restoration project and 2.5 million for the Spencer storm sewer project; a request of support from the city of Superior will be presented for a Community Development Block Grant and USDA Rural Development applications for a wastewater treatment system; two million dollars in funding from the EPA is being requested for a drainage problem in the Center Lake area; the Department of Energy will requested to fund $400,000 for the Clay County geothermal pilot project; and $3 million in funding from the EPA is being requested for a wastewater improvement project in Storm Lake.

The corridor delegation leaves Wednesday and will spend the day Thursday meeting with Senators Charles Grassley and Tom Harkin, along with Congressmen Tom Latham and Steve King.

They’ll return to northwest Iowa Friday.

Evert says 15 people from the Corridor’s four-county region will be going on this year’s trip.
