(Spencer)– Small Business Saturday is coming up tomorrow (Sat.). Curt Strouth, Executive Director of the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, says it comes as the month of November has also been dedicated to honoring entrepreneurs. He says the two are hand-in-hand…
“I mean our small businesses are the blood and the heart of our small communities. Without them our economies would struggle. We have to feel blessed and give recognition to all the small business owners that are within our communities and thank them for the services they provide. They’re at times very, very difficult, I mean they’re odd numbers and they’re working weekends but they’re providing the services we need here in our community. So if you get a chance to thank a small business owner in your community, I encourage you to do so. It’s Small Business Saturday coming up this weekend of Thanksgiving, so you know, they’re going to be working. And if we can keep our shopping in our local communities, I think that is important as well and obviously it’s easy to go online and do all that stuff, but they’re working hard to make ends meet and so the month of November we celebrate that and want to recognize those people that invest in our communities and really providing that quality of life that we need to help draw people to our communities as well.”
A press release from the Spencer Chamber of Commerce says that for every dollar spent at a small business, an average of 67 cents stays in that business’s local community, and that up to 65% of small business’s annual revenue was generated during the holidays last year.
