(Spirit Lake)– The ongoing economic downturn has resulted in a shift of production and a loss of jobs at a Spirit Lake manufacturer.
KUOO news has learned Polaris Industries has combined two separate production lines in a way to cut back on production to meet decreased demand for product. That’s resulted in 50 to 60 employees being placed on indefinite layoff. Volunteers were reportedly asked to take those layoffs with nearly all being filled by volunteers as of last week.
A similar process was reportedly used at the company’s production facility in Roseau, Minnesota, which manufactures snowmobiles.
Meanwhile it was announced last week Polaris Industries has been awarded a six million dollar contract with the U-S Army for additional Ranger ATV’s, parts and service for use in Afghanistan.
